Man arrested for burning oak tree

A 29-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly setting fire to one of the oak trees at Auburn’s Toomer’s Corner, where fans were celebrating a win over LSU. Auburn police said the man is from Auburn but isn’t affiliated with the university. The man’s name was not released. He was arrested on an unrelated charge of public intoxication, but police say witnesses identified him in connection with the tree’s burning. The trees were planted in 2015 after the original oaks were poisoned by an Alabama fan.
