Convicted pedophile faces new charges

Man released from prison allegedly involved in public nudity, mischief

Ottawa police have laid new charges of public nudity against a convicted pedophile who is currently appealing the court ruling against him.

Jeffrey Wills, 42, of Ottawa, was arrested on Thursday following a police investigation which took place between Oct. 17-19 into allegations that Wills has been involved in a number of incidents of public nudity and mischief to property in a Nepean neighbourhood.

Wills was an Ottawa daycare operator who was found guilty of sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, sexual exploitation and sexual assault involving the then-three- and five-year-old girls he was caring for in May 2013.

He was sentenced to five years in prison in August 2015, for the crimes.

He was released in the late summer of this year pending his appeal.

He was released on numerous conditions including that he reside with his surety, not contact his victims or their families and stay away from parks, swimming pools, schools or other places where children under 16 may be present.

It is not unusual for people convicted and sentenced to jail or prison time to be released on bail pending appeal in cases where the Court of Appeal believes the appeal isn’t frivolous and the person’s continued detention isn’t necessary for the public interest.

Wills is now facing new charges including three counts of public nudity, three counts of mischief to property and three counts of breach of a recognizance order.

Wills was to appear in court Friday for a bail hearing to face the new charges against him.

Ottawa police ask anyone with information on the case to contact them at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944.
