Fond memories of Tony Golab

Re: ‘Golden Boy’ won Grey Cup in 1940, Oct. 18.

Thank you for your article in recognition of the late Tony “the Golden Boy” Golab.

I had occasion, in the late 1940s, to salute Mr. Golab on occasion when he was a pilot on 412 Squadron at RCAF Rockcliffe and I was a ground crew tech.

I remember one Friday afternoon when things were pretty quiet in the hangar. Someone “arranged” that Mr. Golab would march most of the junior ranks to the drill hall for exercises. He put us through several bodybuilding routines familiar to him as a Rough Rider. I, for one (of many), soon realized why we were not football players! We ached where we didn’t even know we had muscles. Tony was in good shape.

Thanks, Tony, for all you did for Canada, the squadron and football. Ken Robinson, Ottawa
