Music & Memory

is a program connecting seniors to the music they love with individual playlists. Playlists are created with input from residents, families, friends and staff. Playlists are downloaded onto iPod Shuffles, so residents can connect with the music they love. Music and Memory can vastly improve quality of life, regardless of cognitive or physical status, and is powerful for those with Alzheimer’s. Volunteers needed to download the playlists and support residents in the program. Training and orientation provided, police records check required. The Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization

needs career mentors. The program pairs an internationally-trained professional with a Canadian currently working in the same or similar field. The mentor contributes about one hour per week over a three-month period to the partnership. Together the mentor/mentee develop an employment strategy for the mentee. Each week they review progress, discuss questions and concerns and further define the strategy. The mentor supports the mentee in developing their professional network, developing an understanding of the Canadian working culture and in fine-tuning their cover letters, resume and interviewing skills. Meetings can be held at any public place at a mutually convenient time. Contact Hedich Azad: hazad@ociso. org or 613-725-5671 ext. 225.
