What’s open, and what’s closed for the Easter weekend

- SHAUNA MCGINN

The Easter long weekend starts today — Good Friday — a holiday for most government and some private sector employees.

As a result, store hours and the availability of a few services will change.

Saturday is business as usual.

Here’s what to expect for Friday, Sunday and Monday.

Retail, groceries and alcohol: Malls such as the Rideau Centre, Bayshore Shopping Centre, Place d’Orléans, Tanger Outlets and St. Laurent Shopping Centre will all be closed Friday and Sunday.

They will be open Monday.

The By Ward Market will remain open throughout the long weekend, with some variations in hours from store-to-store. The outdoor market will be open.

Loblaws and Your Independent Grocer locations in Ottawa are closed Friday and Sunday, reopening Monday.

Some food retailers will be open on Sunday, including: Loblaws at 1 Plateau Blvd. in Gatineau, Produce Depot on Carling Avenue, and Herb & Spice on Wellington West.

Some Shoppers Drug Mart locations will be closed, and others will operate with reduced hours. The location at the Westgate Shopping Centre is open 24 hours daily throughout the long weekend.

All Beer Store locations will be closed Friday and Sunday, but resume regular hours on Monday.

The LCBO will also be closed Friday and Sunday, with select locations open Monday.

City services, parking and transportation: City hall, the Ottawa Public Library, city child care centres and the Sexual Health Centre will be closed throughout the long weekend.

There will be no waste, blue, black and green bin collection on Friday or Monday.

Friday collection will be shifted to Saturday, and Monday collection will be carried over to Tuesday. Collections for the rest of the week also move to the next day.

The city’s 311 line will be available for urgent matters only.

Regular city parking regulations will remain in place throughout the weekend.

OC Transpo is operating on a Sunday schedule on Good Friday, with some reductions and the cancellation of school routes numbered in the 600s planned for Monday. Its customer services will be operational by telephone only, except for the Rideau Centre, which will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday.

Para Transpo will operate on Easter Monday.

STO transit on the Quebec side will operate its Saturday schedule on Friday and Monday.
