Krumpers Solar Blinds named 2016 Innovation of the Year

-

Windows are the weakest link in any dwelling. Even EnergyStar-rated windows allow over 40 per cent heat loss in the winter and over 70 per cent heat gain in the summer to occur. However, the window blind industry has had very little innovation or evolution for many decades.

Krumpers Solar Blinds’ approach is based on the consumer, whose issues are: heat in the summer, cold in the winter, a desire for a clear view and year-round UV protection. As they say, ‘necessity is the mother of invention and simplicity is its father.’ Looking at the issues from the consumer’s point of view, Krumpers developed a twosided solar window blind matrix that the user turns twice a year, depending on the season. In summer, the blinds reflect over 70 per cent of heat from coming into the home, while providing 92 per cent UV protection and a clear unobstructed view. In winter, the blinds are turned to the winter position and once again provide a clear view, while acting as a passive solar collector – thus generating heat, while at the same time allowing for an R10 insulating value and UV protection.

As proof of the cutting-edge technology that is part of the product, Krumpers Solar Blinds was recently named the Innovation of the Year winner at the AIR MILES for Business Small Business Achievement Awards. These awards celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit in Canada and recognize some of the country’s rising stars across the full spectrum of industries, who have demonstrated their industry leadership and determination to succeed.

A Canadian manufacturer and retailer that has been garnering accolades from both customers and industry alike, in the past eight years, Krumpers Solar Blinds has been honoured with eight awards, including the prestigious Scotiabank EcoLiving Business Leadership Award.

With the arrival of spring and the meteorologist calling for a very hot summer – as well as the never ending cycle of hydro price increases – now is the time to take control over the comfort of your home.

Krumpers Solar Blinds are made in Canada for the Canadian climate, and are priced at $38 per square foot. Finally, the window treatment industry has a product to meet the criteria of discerning consumers seeking comfort, elegance and efficiency.
