Pyatt wants to be part of Sens’ ‘bright future’

- DON BRENNAN

On his seventh team since being drafted by the New York Rangers in 2005, Tom Pyatt is looking to settle down.

The Senators winger has no plans on shopping his services as an unrestricted free agent in the summer.

“I definitely want to come back,” Pyatt said after Thursday’s morning skate at MSG. “(The Senators and his agent) were talking at the end of the season, and obviously when the playoffs start, that kind of shuts down for a while. Hopefully after (the playoffs), I can get something done right away. I’d like to be back here. To play anywhere in the NHL, it’s nice. I like Ottawa a lot, and we’ve still got a bright future here with this team.”

Bouncing around from team to team “gets old,” Pyatt added.

“It’s nice to stick with a team for awhile,” he said. “It’s something I’m looking forward to. Hopefully, I can stick around. I’d like to stay here. I’m happy here.”

GM Pierre Dorion should have no problem getting a deal done with Pyatt, who was back in the lineup Thursday for the first time since being injured in the fourth game of Round 1.

The 30-year old’s numbers don’t scream for a huge raise on his $800,000 salary.

One of just three Senators to play all 82 games this season, Pyatt scored nine goals and added 14 assists.

He entered Thursday’s game in New York looking for his first playoff point.

Coach Guy Boucher cherishes Pyatt’s responsible play, penalty killing skills and speed.

“I think he trusts me in a lot of areas,” said Pyatt, who Boucher brought with him from Switzerland. “I think he likes my defensive game a little bit.”

The Senators’ other potential UFAs are Chris Neil, Chris Kelly, Mike Condon, Tommy Wingels and Viktor Stalberg.
