CFL draft latest feather in the Ravens’ cap

- Tim Baines

What a night for the Carleton Ravens, whose players were all over the board during Sunday’s CFL draft.

A poster boy for the huge success story that is the Ravens football team, receiver Nate Behar, was rewarded for his personal excellence, selected fifth overall by the Edmonton Eskimos.

Watching the draft from Hometown Sports with a large group of Ravens teammates, friends and family, Behar got a call from the Eskimos with coach Jason Maas and new GM Brock Sunderland (the former Redblacks assistant GM) both talking to him.

Said Behar: “I started nodding and saying, ‘Yes, sir’ and everybody understood what was going on and went crazy. Then the party was on.

“It was pure joy, so much relief. It all builds up for so long and all of a sudden you know where you’re going. There were so many rumours, where you might go — you’re not sure what’s going on. It’s been wild. I just tried to focus on training and put my energy there. You don’t want to put energy into thinking where you want to go because you only have a one in nine chance.”

Behar is excited for the opportunity ahead with the Eskimos.

“I just know it’s a great fit,” he said.

Behar will have a couple of weeks to get ready for the Eskimos’ May 24 rookie camp.

Defensive back and returner Tunde Adeleke went in Round 3 to Calgary. Defensive back Nathaniel Hamlin went in the fourth round to B.C. Former Carleton receiver Malcolm Carter, who played last season for the Sooners, went to Montreal in Round 6. Offensive linemen Zach Annen (in Round 5 to Montreal) and Kwabena Asare (Round 6 to Edmonton) were also selected. Ottawa U defensive back Ty Cranston went in Round 7 to Montreal, while Carleton defensive lineman Emmanuel Adusei went to Saskatchewan in Round 7.
