Casino here keeps money invested here
I find it hard to imagine that building an entertainment complex, hotel and other amenities at a racetrack that has hosted horse racing, bingo and slot machines for more than 50 years is now somehow going to result in a wave of problem gambling.
There has been a casino in Gatineau for years that has seen hundreds of millions earned in Ontario invested in Quebec’s hospitals and schools instead of here.
A casino at Ottawa’s racetrack will bring customers home and put some of their money to good work in our communities, where it is badly needed.
All of OLG’s profits are reinvested in health care, education, municipal revenue sharing and problem gaming. We’d have a billion-dollar hole each year if the government totally got out of the business.
How is that better for anyone? Ed McHale, Woodlawn, Ont.
