There’s a reason for backup beepers
Re: City hopes to silence backup beeping, May 19
Really? Is the city going to accept responsibility for accidents caused by this? The backup beeping is a preventive measure for accidents, and some vehicles are required by law to have these warnings. Does the City of Ottawa even have the right to pass a bylaw neutralizing the warning mechanism on these vehicles?
This is another case of the city rushing headlong to make unilateral decisions to quell the angry voices of a few.
Is there nobody at city hall who can stand up and say “No, we can’t do that, and this is why?” Or is there no one there with that degree of common sense? Wayne Boone, Ottawa
