Champions power way to sweep of Cubans
The Ottawa Champions had plenty of swat in their bats on Father’s Day, completing a three-game sweep with a 14-5 win over the Cuban National team at RCGT Park.
The Champions, sparked by a seven-run seventh inning, got a strong effort from pitcher Austin Chrismon, who gave up three runs in seven innings.
“He got off to a bit of a shaky start in the first inning, but after that he pitched a very solid ball game for us,” said Champions manager Hal Lanier.
Tyler Nordgren, who went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, launched a two-run homer in the ninth.
The Champions will welcome the Quebec Capitales to RCGT Park on Monday to kick off a three-game series.
