Police probe kit-napping of shelter feline

- LAUREN MALYK

A kitten with special needs was a day away from finding her forever home in June.

And then, on June 26, Flipper, a three-and-a-half-month-old short hair, was stolen from the Kingston Humane Society.

“She was approved to be adopted on June 27,” said Connie Ball, the executive director for the shelter.

After staff checked for Flipper and couldn’t find her, the kitten was reported missing to police.

Ball said Flipper had a “unique style of walking” from a birth defect in one of her front legs.

The shelter believed the kitten would need regular veterinary care and weight control to maximize her mobility as she grew.

“We have concern regarding the care and outcomes for Flipper and also disappointment that someone would steal from a charity,” said Ball.

Police are looking for a woman captured on security footage who may have information on the theft.

A woman left the humane society shortly after the kitten went missing in a newer grey-coloured Honda Civic or Hyundai Elantra.

Anyone with information is asked to call Const. Jennifer McNamara at 613-549-4660, ext. 3311 or email her at jmcnamara@kpf. ca. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to 613-549-4660, ext. 0, or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
