NHL HALL OF FAME STAR, GILMOUR, VISITS CITE PARKWAY RETIREMENT RESIDENCE
Residents, guests and staff at Chapel Hill were treated to an afternoon of laughter, camaraderie and wonderful memories as former Leafs Captain and Hall of Famer Doug Gilmour shared stories of his life as an NHL star on July 17. Joining us for this experience were families, friends and old time hockey fans wanting a photo with Gilmour and helping raise awareness and funds for the Montfort Hospital Foundation’s “For You, Sweet Heart” fundraising campaign to purchase a CT scanner with specialized cardiac module. With the assistance of resident’s sisters, Lise Caron who at 75 still plays hockey twice per week, Doug accepted a shootout challenge and hit all four targets on a hockey net to push the monies raised to more than $3,700! Doug was generous with his time as he visited with everyone in attendance. One enthusiastic relative of a Cite Parkway resident said: “Our son’s middle name is Gilmour… Doug has always been my hockey hero!” Everyone was engaged with Doug’s stories about his hockey career, current career and future plans. One young guest asked: “Mr. Gilmour, what are you planning on doing when you retire?” (Fishing was identified as an option). Doug then spent the remainder of the afternoon visiting guests at their tables in our dining room. Everyone got a picture and everything got autographed! This is the ninth planned event where All Seniors Care Living Centres has partnered with Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni to welcome their members to visit retirement communities across Canada. Other visits have included Wendel Clark in Regina, Laurie Boschman in Winnipeg, Lanny McDonald in Calgary and Curtis Joseph in Edmonton. Event partner, Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment, provided souvenirs to everyone in attendance. At All Seniors Care, we believe that whether actively participating or just enjoying watching the proceedings, being involved is crucial for maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. Planning is under way for our next guest appearance please watch our website for more information as we get details confirmed www.allseniroscare.com.
