The man police believe fatally shot two friends and wounded one of their brothers is on the run and wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant.

Alam Gabriel Buoc, 29, is wanted by police for two counts of firstdegree murder — in the slayings of Abdulrahman Al-Shammari, 26, and Dirie Olol, 27 — and one count of attempted murder in the shooting of Talal Al-Shammari, 27.

Police say Buoc is armed and dangerous.

The warrant for his arrest Wednesday comes after police obtained new evidence to link Buoc to the shootings. Police issued a be-on-the-lookout for Buoc on Tuesday evening before getting the arrest warrant.

Homicide detectives began investigating the double killings and the attempted homicide early Monday morning.

It was just after 7 a.m. when Talal showed up at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital with bullet wounds to his neck, shoulder and pinky finger.

From there, police later found Abdulrahman lying on a Tavistock Road driveway with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Hours later, Abdulrahman’s idling white Mazda 3 was found on Wayne Avenue East with Olol’s body inside, dead from a bullet to the forehead.

Investigators believed the shootings across the west end were connected and targeted. All three victims grew up together and lived just doors away from each other in Kanata.

At the Olol family home Wednesday, many gathered to mourn Dirie, who they described as the “pulse of the family.” Mourners were also seen visiting the Al-Shammari home doors down.

“(Dirie) was the glue,” his sister Ambaro Olol told the Citizen.

He had the “kindest heart,” she said.

“He was a loving son, brother and uncle who will be dearly missed,” his cousin Mohamed Yussuf said. “He was a standup fellow who never hurt anyone.”

Dirie was the second-youngest of nine children in the family. He loved basketball and played at the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa. He would play with his nephews at the courts backing onto his family’s home.

Now, his nephews and nieces will grow up not knowing their “Uncle Dede.”

Ambaro said that nothing, not even news of developments in the criminal investigation into his killing, will bring Dirie back.

“He’s gone forever, we’ll never see his smile again,” she said.

In the Muslim faith, smiling is considered charity. “He smiled every day.” The man suspected of killing Olol has a significant criminal record dating back to 2007, including assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, assault and several breaches for refusing to follow conditions imposed on him by the court.

Buoc was convicted on Valentine’s Day 2014 of several offences, including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a gun. He was arrested and charged in 2012 for failing to stop for police and driving while his licence was suspended after being pulled over by police on Dumaurier Avenue and Ramsey Crescent in the west end of Ottawa.

Inside his car, police found a loaded .45 calibre P12-45 handgun and cocaine.

Buoc appealed that conviction, but the appeal was dismissed. Part of his sentence was a 10-year ban from possessing any guns.

He was also known to police for other reasons.

After he pleaded guilty to assault, assaulting a peace officer and two breaches of probation in 2011, Jason Gilbert, his lawyer at the time, described him as suffering from serious alcohol addiction.

Gilbert said at the time that Buoc might not even be alive if not for Ottawa police.

In December 2009, police fished a heavily intoxicated Buoc from a pond where he was found floating face down, Gilbert said.

Anyone with information on Buoc’s whereabouts is asked to call the major crime unit at 613236-1222 ext. 5493.
