Professional renovations guaranteed by Westend Bath and Kitchen

- BRIAN McCULLOUGH

Ann and Norman absolutely loved the bright, airy openness of their Stonebridge subdivision bungalow when they bought the house two years ago, but say they are enjoying life at home even more these days thanks to an excellent renovation experience from the experts at Westend Bath and Kitchen.

They knew when they moved in that the ensuite’s oversized corner tub and too-small shower arrangement would not last long, and while they liked the overall design of the kitchen, there was room for improvement in the aesthetic and functional aspects of this important living space.

There was also something of a case of “out with the gold and in with the new,” a reference to the yellow-gold ceramic floor tiles that made the 12-year-old house appear much older than it actually is.

“The kitchen and bathroom definitely looked dated,” Ann said. “We like cooler colours, and just wanted to make this place our own.”

A referral led them to the renovation professionals at Westend Bath and Kitchen, where store manager Alan Carriere, design expert Kendra Brunet and contract installer Rick Cleroux were able to work with the couple to give them a beautiful ensuite that features everything they wanted in terms of style and comfort, and a sleek, modernized kitchen that would meet their needs and better suit the overall style of the home.

Like most customers, Ann and Norman said they enjoyed visiting Westend’s 8,000-sq.-ft. showroom to look at design options, materials and colours. The imaginative model rooms and extensive sample displays make it easy for customers to visualize the amazing range of possibilities that are available for their kitchen and bath makeovers.

“We were like kids in a candy store,” Ann said.

For their kitchen, the couple wanted to put in a larger fridge, and relocate the microwave to a more useful position above the stove. A coffee station would be created in a redesigned nook where the microwave had been. They said they were especially pleased with Brunet’s suggestions to order wide Deslaurier custom cabinets designed to follow the natural lines of the stunning Cambria Torquay quartz countertops. Brunet also had another nice suggestion for the countertop areas.

“The backsplash is made of simple, white 3x6 subway tiles,” she said, “but we installed them in a herringbone pattern, and finished them with a light grey grout to show off the design. It gives everything just the right amount of contrast.”

For the ensuite, Brunet changed the entire layout to accommodate a more spacious shower area that features a stylish stone and glass waterfall accent mosaic, and a custom glass pivot door. The Cambria quartz countertop and ceramic tile floor give the space a real sense of beauty and openness.

Norman said he and Ann appreciated the hands-on involvement and attention to detail from the entire Westend team, and enjoyed seeing the pride everyone took in their work.

“We are very, very pleased with what we got for our renovation,” Norman said. “We asked that they treat us fairly, and they did.”

“We couldn’t be happier,” Ann said. “We got what we wanted.”

The Westend Bath & Kitchen showroom, located at 1660 Woodward Dr., is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You
