Pair wearing construction gear invade home in armed robbery

- MEGAN GILLIS

Police are hunting for two men armed with handguns who allegedly forced their way into a Kanata home and robbed a lone woman Monday.

The pair, wearing spotless construction gear and sunglasses, rang the doorbell of the home on Westover Crescent, which is near the intersection of Huntmar and Campeau drives, around 10:50 a.m.

The men, armed with handguns, forced their way into the house, police said.

While one controlled the victim, the other searched the home. They left with only several higher-end women’s handbags, heading north on foot, where a vehicle may have been waiting, police said. The woman was unhurt. Police said it’s not yet clear if the house was targeted.

The first suspect is an Asian male of medium height and build, with short hair. He was wearing a yellow construction hat, a fluorescent vest over a black jacket and yellow and black Stanley work gloves.

The second is a white male of medium height and build wearing a construction hat, fluorescent jacket, black pants with a reflective strip and black work gloves. Their clothes looked “new and unmarked” — as if recently purchased, perhaps at a local store, police said.

They carried a large black duffle bag with yellow stripes, possibly from Adidas and marked “UCLA.”

Police want to talk to retailers who carry that specific bag or might recognize the men and anyone who was in the area at the time and spotted the suspects.

People with information are asked to call the robbery unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5116.
