SEVERAL BLOWOUTS SO FAR

- Ken Warren

You would never have guessed that the Montreal Canadiens entered Monday’s game as the league’s worst offensive team.

Their 8-3 win over the Senators represents the most goals the Canadiens have scored against Ottawa since the Senators returned to the NHL during the 1992-93 season.

The Senators shouldn’t feel that bad. Through the first four weeks of the season, there have been five other games where a club has scored at least eight goals in a game. Also on Monday, Tampa and Florida took turns filling the net in the Lightning’s 8-5 victory.

On four other occasions this season, a team has hit seven.

If you think there are more big numbers than a year ago, you’re correct.

Last October, only five teams hit the seven-goal mark in October, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Below are the biggest blowouts in the modern history between the Senators and the Canadiens.
