St. Joseph set for North Bowl

-

Two of the elite high school football teams in Canada will go toe to toe Saturday at 4 p.m. at Carleton University’s MNP Park.

In what’s being called the North Bowl, No. 1-ranked Football North Clarkson will face the first-year Football North St. Joseph team.

Both squads compete against high school competition in the United States.

“(The North Bowl) is going to be exciting because we get to play against a team that really is where we would like to be come next year,” said St. Joseph coach Blaine Scatcherd.

“They are a second-year program who went through the lumps we did the first year. They’ve learned, and they’ve gotten better.

“Having said that, we are there to compete. We are not just there to go in and play a football game. We are going in to win.”

St. Joseph has two wins this season, one a 61-0 blowout over the Silver Oaks Academy Rams (Maryland), the other 27-12 over Maryland’s Avalon Black Knights.

With injuries hurting the depth of the 38-man roster, players like Kevin Victome and Arthur Hamlin have gone both ways.

Three St. Joseph players — Hamlin, defensive lineman Lake KorteMoore and offensive lineman Alex Berwick — are ranked in Canada Football Chat’s Top 100.

Clarkson enters the North Bowl with a 3-6 record. — Postmedia
