Grow your people, grow your business. Learn how on Nov. 17

- MARK STACHIEW

There are many entrepreneurs who start successful companies, but the talent to succeed at business doesn’t automatically make them good leaders.

“There are many people who are running companies, managing people and in leadership roles who are very successful, but who don’t always have all the answers,” said Mark Nesbitt, a 30-year veteran of the construction business with a passion for improving his own leadership skills and helping others improve theirs.

“These people are looking for ways to improve their leadership skills,” he said. “Leadership is something that can be learned. It’s just like learning to ride a bike; you can actually learn to be better at it.”

Even though his own experience is in the aggregate, mining, trucking and construction business, Nesbitt believes that the leadership skills he teaches can apply to any industry.

“The principles of dealing with people are the same whether you’re working with a hairdressing shop or you’re working in a construction group. It’s all about people,” he said.

To improve their leadership skills and ability to better manage their employees, Nesbitt is encouraging people to come out to Centrepointe Theatre (101 Centrepointe Dr.) on Friday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m. to attend Live2Lead, a half-day simulcast event that will feature a list of passionate and knowledgeable speakers.

“Anybody that is in a leadership role that wants to personally grow themselves would definitely benefit from attending this event,” said Nesbitt. “You don’t have to be running a big corporation to be in a leadership role. Believe it or not, if you’re the mother or father of a home, you’re in a leadership role. Everybody’s a leader, whether they recognize it or not.”

Headlining the event will be New York Times bestselling author John C. Maxwell who has sold more than 26 million books and is considered one of the world’s most influential leadership experts. He will be joined by personal money-management and business expert Dave Ramsey, former NFL running back Warrick Dunn, former Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen CEO Cheryl Bachelder and two-time Olympic gold medallist Heather Moyse. Each speaker will share their experiences and advice designed to invigorate attendees to return to their offices and homes, ready to implement new action plans while leading with renewed passion and commitment.

“There’s a lot of good networking to be had. When you attend something like this there’s typically a buzz in the room that you don’t want to miss,” said Nesbitt.
