Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson and his wife, Melinda, are having a boy.

Melinda informed the world via Instagram, with a video of her hubby shooting a hockey puck that exploded with blue powder.

That was followed by whooping, hugs and kisses for the happy couple, who announced last month they were expecting a baby. The video was posted Sunday, and by Monday morning 190,000 people had watched it.

There’s no news yet on the baby’s name, but if the Karlssons want to go with what’s popular, the Ontario government has some suggestions.

The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, which keeps track of these joyous events, just released its latest list of the most popular baby names in the province.

The No. 1 name for boys last year? Benjamin. It edges out Liam, which slipped to second spot after leading the list for five years running. Next among the Top 5 are Noah, Ethan and Lucas.

Or perhaps the Karlssons want to honour Erik’s Swedish heritage. And guess what? There’s a lot of overlap between popular baby names in Ontario and Sweden. Two of the names — Lucas and Liam — make the Top 5 in both places.

The most popular name for boys in Sweden in 2016 was Oscar, according to Statistic Sweden. Next on the list are Lucas, William, Liam and Oliver. Erik, by the way, is No. 37.

And, in case you are wondering, in Ontario, Olivia is now the most popular name for girls, followed by Emma, Charlotte, Ava and Sophia.
