Canada’s women’s team, skipped by Sandra Schmirler, won the gold while the men’s team, skipped by Mike Harris, took silver. Canada’s men’s and women’s curling teams have won 10 medals at the five Games in which it was a medal sport. This year, athletes will also compete in the new curling mixed doubles event. It took 82 years for the British curling team to receive its gold medals from the 1924 Olympics, where it was considered a demonstration sport. In 2006, the IOC ruled the sport had been part of the official program.
