What’s open and closed on Family Day

- NICHOLAS DUNNE

Many stores and services across the city will be closing or modifying their hours on Ontario’s Family Day holiday. Here’s a list of things to look out for:

Most shopping malls will be closed on Family Day: Tanger Outlets, Bayshore, Carlingwood, Lincoln Fields, Westgate, St. Laurent and Place d’Orléans are all shutting their doors, as are the LCBO and Beer Stores.

However, the Rideau Centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as will many shops in the By Ward Market and the Glebe.

Many groceries stores will be closed, but the Loblaws at 363 Rideau St. and the Whole Foods at Lansdowne will be open.

Ottawa City Hall and all seven client service centres will be closed. So will the Ottawa Public Library and the city’s health clinics.

The provincial courts and Service Ontario centres will be closed, but Service Canada centres will remain open.

Garbage, recycling and green bin collection will be delayed by one day for the week of Family Day. However, multi-residential garbage container collection will not be delayed.

City of Ottawa activities, pools, arenas and fitness centres will be running on modified schedules.

For those who need to make lastminute plans on Family Day, the National Gallery of Canada will be open, as will most museums including the Museum of History, the Museum of Nature, the Museum of Science and Technology and the War Museum. The Canada 150 rink on Parliament Hill will also be open with passes available at 10 a.m.

Family Day is the final day of Winterlude, and, weather permitting, the Rideau Canal Skateway will be open.

The Rink of Dreams outside City Hall will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Mayor Jim Watson is inviting everyone to his Annual Family Day Skating Party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Ben Franklin Place Skating Rink will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting.

OC Transpo will operate a revised weekday schedule on Family Day with minor reductions on some routes.
