Man wounded in city’s 22nd shooting this year
The Ottawa police guns and gangs unit is investigating following a Saturday afternoon shooting near the Chinatown and Little Italy neighbourhoods that sent a 35-year-old man to hospital in critical condition.
Shortly before 4 p.m., police were called to a home on Anderson Street, between Rochester and Booth streets, where they found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Paramedics reported the victim was in cardiac arrest, and they revived him before transporting him to hospital.
He was listed in critical condition at the time of arrival at hospital, but in a news release late Saturday night police said his condition had been upgraded to stable.
The guns and gangs unit confirmed it has taken over the investigation, but did not release any information on the shooting or on the search for a suspect.
No arrests had been made by early Saturday night.
Investigators were seen entering a two-storey detached home on Anderson shortly after the shooting. Officers on the scene confirmed the shooting happened inside the home, but declined to elaborate.
The shooting is the city’s 22nd incident of gunplay so far in 2018.
Police were called to the area for a shooting on Jan. 4, when a 22-year-old man turned up at the hospital with gunshot wounds after 911 callers had reported gunfire on Willow Street.
The victim in that incident was known to police.
Officers found spent shell casings at the scene near the intersection of Willow and Rochester streets.
It was not immediately known how many shots were fired in Saturday’s incident.
Police did not say whether they had interviewed potential witnesses.
