Standing up for a good cause
For 14 years, Comedy Night for Parkinson’s has been raising funds and awareness in Ottawa, and Yuk Yuk’s has paired with Parkinson Canada for all those years.
“I am very proud to be part of this year’s Comedy Night for Parkinson’s and to have been part of it for 14 years,” said Howard Wagman, owner of Yuk Yuk’s. “We make sure that people who support the event see something different every time, and the comics are always willing to support a good cause.”
The late Canadian comic legend Mike MacDonald was part of the Comedy Night for Parkinson’s show back in 2013. “Forty years in the business, he was one of the most groundbreaking, influential and respected comedians in Canadian history,” said Wagman.
The 2018 Comedy Night for Parkinson’s fundraiser and silent auction will take place at Centrepointe Theatres Saturday, April 21.
“Fundraising is a very big part of our business now,” said Wagman. “Donors need to do more with their charity dollars and want to get something in return. It’s a win/win. They get to do good, and they get a great night out and excellent entertainment.”
Tickets are $40 each, and available from the Centrepointe box office.
Comedy Night for Parkinson’s is a great opportunity to get together with friends for a good laugh while supporting the cause. This year’s Comedy Night for Parkinson’s features comedians Martha Chaves, Chris Borris and headliner Jeff McEnery. There is a pre-show social and silent auction in the atrium at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. on the main stage.
Parkinson Canada, a registered charity, is working hard to improve the quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s and their families while raising funds for education, advocacy and research.
There are more than seven million people worldwide and 100,000 Canadians living with Parkinson’s.
“Parkinson Canada has been helping people affected by Parkinson’s for over 50 years through support programs and services including free counselling and support groups, information and referral, education and awareness, as well as exercise programs,” said Alan Muir, manager, resource development, of the Ottawa office of Parkinson Canada.
