Beware of tax scam: RCMP

The RCMP says it isn’t making calls claiming taxpayers owe big and will be under arrest if they don’t pay up via money transfer. It’s a scam and the calls, in which fraudsters impersonate police officers, use caller ID spoofing to make them appear to be they coming from the Mounties. People are told they owe a large amount of money in income taxes, that an arrest warrant has been issued, and the only way to make it go away is an immediate money transfer. Anyone who has received one of these calls is asked to call local police and the Canadian AntiFraud Centre at 1-888495-8501.
