New for the 48th season of NOKIA Sunday Bikedays

-

The National Capital Commission (NCC) is proud to present Sunday Bikedays, a program that has been offered on Sunday mornings every summer since 1970, thanks to the invaluable support of the NCC’s sponsors, partners and staff.

Between the Victoria Day and Labour Day weekends, NOKIA Sunday Bikedays,

presented in collaboration with the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) and Service Plus, provides an opportunity for cyclists, runners, inline skaters and pedestrians to enjoy over 50 kilometres of car-free roads on Ottawa’s scenic parkways, including along the Rideau Canal, as well as in Gatineau Park.

This year, the NOKIA Sunday Bikedays launch will take place on May 20, in collaboration with EnviroCentre and MOBI-O, as part of Bike to Work Month. More than 20 kiosks will be set up on-site, starting at 9 a.m., in the parking lot at the Champlain Bridge exit on the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway.

In addition, a new “Fast Lane” will be offered on the Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. for cyclists who would like to ride faster.

A popular way to explore the capital

According to recent surveys, about 290,000 people participate in the NOKIA Sunday Bikedays program each season, and the satisfaction level is very high, as most people take part between four and 16 times per season. For this 48th year, the NCC team and its sponsors are expecting another great season of NOKIA Sunday Bikedays. “We would like to thank NOKIA for its steadfast and continuing support, as well as PIPSC and Service Plus, who are partners in the program for a second year. These collaborative arrangements are vital to offering a high-quality program for the National Capital Region.” —Dr. Mark Kristmanson, Chief Executive Officer, NCC

Bikedays participants greatly appreciate the services that NOKIA provides, and the NOKIA Ottawa team welcomes the opportunity to give back to the community. And, as with every season, the NCC and its sponsors work together to enrich the user experience of NOKIA Sunday Bikedays. “Sunday Bikedays is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery and landscapes of Canada’s Capital Region. NOKIA is proud to contribute to an event that motivates so many people to get outside and be active. NOKIA has been a long-term partner of this program and plans to continue in this role for years to come.”

—Andy Thompson, VicePresident, Procurement, NOKIA

Back for 2018

This year, Bikedays participants can once again enjoy the mobile drinking

water service, presented by PIPSC-Service Plus, which saved the equivalent of 9,376 (500 mL) bottles of water last year.

The Young Entrepreneurs Program is also continuing this year, in collaboration with Junior Achievement Ottawa.
