Madrid toasts another Champs League crown

For a third straight year, Real Madrid celebrated a European title with its fans. Madrid brought the Champions League trophy home on Sunday and paraded it through the streets of the Spanish capital as thousands of fans saluted the newly crowned champions. Madrid captured its 13th European title with a 3-1 win Saturday over Liverpool in Kyiv. Players and team members participat­ed in a ceremony at a local cathedral. Afterward, they met with the city mayor and community president before addressing fans from a terrace at the Puerta del Sol square, one of Madrid’s main locations. Madrid has won the Champions League in four of the last five years.

Salah ‘confident’ he’ll suit up at World Cup

Egypt forward Mohamed Salah says he’s confident of being fit for the World Cup after hurting his shoulder playing for Liverpool in the Champions League final. Salah left the field in tears in the first half after landing heavily following a tussle with Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos. Madrid went on to win 3-1. In a post on Twitter on Sunday, Salah said “it was a very tough night, but I’m a fighter. Despite the odds, I’m confident that I’ll be in Russia to make you all proud.” Egypt is playing in the World Cup for the first time since 1990. Its first group game is against Uruguay on June 15. Salah scored 44 goals for Liverpool in all competitio­ns this season.
