Ottawa-Vanier voters advised to confirm polling location

- KIERAN DELAMONT

Voters in Ottawa-Vanier should double-check where their polling location is after incorrect information was inadvertently sent to voters by the campaign team of Liberal candidate Nathalie Des Rosiers.

Jessica Pellerin, a spokesperson for Elections Ontario, confirmed on Wednesday that information distributed in the riding “may be incorrect,” and reiterated that voters should check directly with Elections Ontario if they are unsure about where to vote.

Volunteers with the Des Rosiers campaign confirmed on Wednesday night that they were the source of the incorrect information, which they say was the result of a postal-code error on a piece of campaign literature mailed out to voters.

Campaign staff say that an error exporting a Microsoft Excel mailing list caused some of their supporters to receive erroneous information.

The campaign became aware of the mistake early Wednesday morning after supporters noticed that the information distributed was incorrect, and the campaign subsequently alerted Elections Ontario to their mistake.

Campaign staff also said that they have had a team of volunteers working since Wednesday morning to reach out to voters who may have received incorrect information.

“It’s a mistake on our part,” said a volunteer with the campaign.

All of the affected voters were considered Liberal supporters by the campaign.

Des Rosiers’s campaign staff said they believe the number of voters who received the incorrect mailer was “pretty minimal.”

Elections Ontario was not able to provide any further information about how many voters might have received incorrect information.

“We’ll be able to provide that as soon as it becomes available,” said Pellerin. “What I can say is the only reliable source of information on where electors should go to vote is Elections Ontario.”
