Murray’s musings and mutterings from Day 18, the final day of the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ training camp at the University of Saskatchewan’s Griffiths Stadium:

COURT DATES

Duron Carter is on the field with the Riders while his marijuana possession charges work their way through the courts.

The 27-year-old wide receiver/ defensive back was charged with allegedly possessing more than 30 grams of marijuana when he was stopped at Winnipeg International Airport on Nov. 25. On Feb. 1, he was charged with possession of marijuana at Saskatoon International Airport.

Winnipeg court proceedings on Carter’s first charge have been pushed back to June 18.

He’s also slated to appear in Saskatoon court on June 14, the day before the Riders kick off the regular season.

FULL-HOUSE BACKFIELD

The Riders have signed international running back Storm Johnson. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats released the ex-NFLer on Monday.

Johnson, 25, was selected in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also had stints with the Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

MURRAY’S MONSTER

There’s more to Christion Jones than returning punts.

Jones has seen extra duty at wide receiver and running back since camp opened on May 20. The additional reps are part of the Riders’ plans to prepare players to step up when injuries arise.

Versatility is key for the Riders. But Jones is more than an insurance policy.

On Wednesday, he leaped high into the air to snag an errant pass. He then broke free across the middle to make two tough catches in traffic.
