■ NEW HOME FOR WESTFEST,

-

Westfest celebrates its 15th anniversary in another new location: the Tom Brown Arena at 141 Bayview Rd.

It’s the sixth move in 15 years for the free community arts festival, and producer Elaina Martin hopes it’s the last one.

“We’re going to see how it goes, but if it goes the way I think it will, I think we’ll stay there,” she says. After two years at Laroche Park, the festival moved to make way for a city plan to renew the park.

Martin is excited about the site’s proximity to the main drag on Wellington Street, and is looking forward to hosting afterparties in the arena’s fully accessible upstairs party room. The main stage, located outdoors on the arena grounds, will shut down at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and the festivities will move indoors for a DJ after-party on Friday, and a live music after-party on Saturday, featuring River City Junction and friends.

Here’s the rest of the schedule:

Friday, 5-10 p.m.: Bear Witness (from A Tribe Called Red); Artin Avaznia; Witch Prophet; Silla + Rise; Leonard Sumner; Every Woman’s Drum.

Saturday, 2-10 p.m.: The Pursuit of Happiness; Rita Carter; Kimberly Sunstrum; Julie Corrigan; Kris & Dee; Iyono Ede & the Leaning Lights; panel discussion: Cross Community Collaborations with moderator Cara Tierney, 1-2 p.m., inside the arena.
