SIU called in after woman shot
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a woman was shot and two Lanark OPP officers injured during a confrontation involving an aggressive dog in Almonte on Tuesday. The SIU said in a news release Tuesday night that at about 10:15 a.m., two OPP officers arrived at an Almonte home and while on the porch, two dogs came out of the house. Both officers were bitten and one officer fired several shots at one of the dogs, the SIU said. One bullet struck the 64-yearold woman who was on the porch with the officers. She and both officers were taken to hospital for treatment, the SIU release said. The dog died at the scene. The SIU conducts criminal investigations into circumstances involving police and civilians that result in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
