International help on way for Fury FC
The name of the new player will hardly be of the household variety so, no, it’s not a Wayne Rooney or anyone like him.
But help should arrive for the Ottawa Fury FC with an announcement as early as Monday that they have signed an ‘International’ player of significance to replace Gatineau native Maxim Tissot, who was lost for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.
Tissot, a former member of the MLS’s Montreal Impact and D.C. United, was expected to be one of the Fury building blocks.
Instead, injuries limited him to just 48 minutes before the season-ending injury in the second leg of the Canadian Championship Series against Blainville two weeks ago.
The newcomer can’t begin training with the Fury until all his transfer paperwork is complete, though GM Julian de Guzman is expected to announced the signing on the heels of the International Transfer Period opening up last week.
“Max was going to be a very good player for us,” said Fury head coach Nikola Popovic. “He’s a guy that could have helped us at forward or as a defender.
“But we’ve been looking at a lot of players and we hope to add a very good player. You watch everybody and then find the best one.”
Fury keeper Maxime Crepeau said the International Transfer Window is like a rite of summer. “(The window) doesn’t affect the players,” Crepeau said. “It’s part of football. Some players come and some go. All we can do is control our own performance.’’
