Fury hits the road looking for answers before it’s too late

- DON CAMPBELL

If any one wanted to do a “Week in Review” of the Ottawa Fury FC for the period from Aug. 18-25, well it would really be almost a waste of time.

Three games, two of them at friendly TD Place. No wins. One of a possible nine points.

And that’s not even the worst of it.

Not a single goal by the Fury. Not even one.

A 0-0 draw with the Indy 11 Aug. 18. Then back-to-back 2-0 losses last Wednesday essay in Bethlehem and then Saturday night at home to the Penn FC.

The Fury have now gone 276 minutes without a goal dating all the way back to late in a 2-0 win over the lowly Richmond Kickers Aug. 15.

Now, does that sound like a playoff drive?

“It was a tough week with some travel,” said relative newcomer David Edgar. “It’s a tough one to pinpoint because we are doing the right things but minor details are becoming major for us.

“We don’t have a good record when we fall behind and we did that (Wednesday) and again (Saturday).

“Our recovery has to start now for next Friday.”

The Fury, with just three road wins all season, begin a five-game road trip next Friday in New York.

They won’t see TD Place for another USL game until the secondlast day of September.

“More than the road, what’s been very tough is the timing of the games,” said head coach Nikola Popovic.

“We play Wednesday, then a nine-hour bus trip back.

“Then we train 32 hours later and we can’t do any training. It’s just about recovery. It’s how we can recover our players.”
