What’s open and closed in Ottawa on Labour Day

For many, the long Labour Day weekend marks the end of summer. To ease you through it, here’s a list of places, programs and services across the city with hours of operation affected — or not — by the statutory holiday.

SHOPPING

Most Loblaws locations will be closed Monday, but the store at Rideau Street will be open 24 hours and the Loblaws on Isabella Street will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Metro Glebe will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Metro Rideau will be open 24 hours, but all other stores will be closed.

All Real Canadian Superstore­s, Your Independen­t Grocers, No Frills, Sobeys and Walmarts will be closed.

All Beer Stores and LCBO stores will be closed.

The Rideau Centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but all other shopping centres will be closed.

RECREATION

All beaches and splash pads will be open, weather permitting, but they won’t be supervised.

Some indoor pools, arenas and fitness centres will be open with modified schedules, but most registered programs at pools, community centres and arenas will be cancelled. Check with your local facility for exceptions.

All Ottawa Public Library branches will be closed.

CULTURE

The Ottawa Art Gallery is closed, but the National Gallery is open. The Museum of Nature, Agricultur­e

and Food, War, Science and Technology, History, and Aviation and Space are all open.

City of Ottawa arts centres, galleries, theatres and museums will be closed, save for a few at city hall.

TRANSIT

OC Transpo will operate on a Sunday schedule (note: new fall service goes live Sunday — check out the new schedules at octranspo.com). OC Transpo customer service centres will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lincoln Fields, Place d’Orléans and St-Laurent, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Rideau Centre.

Para Transpo will operate on a holiday schedule. Regular subscripti­on bookings will be cancelled. Customers can book Labour Day trips by calling 613-244-7272.

GARBAGE

There will be no curbside green bin, recycling or garbage collection on Labour Day. Monday’s pickup will be pushed to Tuesday, and collection for the rest of the week will be delayed by one day.

The same goes for multi-residentia­l green bin and recycling collection, but multi-residentia­l garbage container collection will take place on its regularly scheduled day next week.

HEALTH AND FAMILY

Ottawa Public Health’s sexual health clinics, dental clinics and parenting drop-ins will be closed.

All municipal childcare centres will be closed.

The Site program office on Clarence Street and its mobile van will be open regular hours.

The OPH informatio­n line will be closed, but you can find the latest health informatio­n at OttawaPubl­icHealth.ca.

CITY SERVICES

City hall and all Service-Ottawa centres will be closed Monday, as will the government service centre at 110 Laurier Ave. W. and the Provincial Offences Court in Nepean.

The city ’s 311 contact centre will be open for urgent matters.

All city parking regulation­s and restrictio­ns will apply as normal.
