After a rash of European club and festival gigs this summer, the Souljazz Orchestra has a hometurf gig on Saturday at Babylon (317 Bank St.). The veteran, Juno-nominated worldbeat band is promising to debut some new music along with its hits, and DJ Zattar will be joining the group, too. Doors: 10 p.m., admission $15.

JAZZ

Ottawa pianist John Kofi Dapaah kicks off his 2018-19 studio sessions series at Ottawa Piano and Keyboards (1412 Bank St.) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in a duo concert with vocalist Roxanne Goodman. Dapaah, a Carleton University grad, is a double threat as a classical and jazz pianist who earlier this year released his debut album that featured interpreta­tions of music by Chopin, Schumann and others. In addition to being a singer, Goodman is a worship leader, teacher, author and motivation­al speaker known as The Confidence Booster. Admission is $25. Tickets available at eventbrite.ca.

CLASSICAL

The NAC Orchestra’s Beethoven festival concludes this weekend. While Saturday night’s concert of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is sold out, there are freeadmiss­ion, casual performanc­es of Beethoven’s piano works on Friday and Saturday in the NAC’s Peter A. Herrndorf Place. On Friday, the “Beethoven Marathon” begins at 5 p.m. and picks up the next day at 10 a.m.

FOOD

Caroline Ishii, the chef who launched the lauded vegan restaurant ZenKitchen in Ottawa almost a decade ago, will cook pop-up dinners Sunday and Monday night at the Lord Elgin Hotel’s Grill 41 dining room. Ishii, who has been living recently in Japan, will serve five-course gourmet vegan dinners inspired by her ancestral homeland.
