Police ‘pulling out all stops’ in search for Nakayla

- JOANNE LAUCIUS

Ottawa police say they are maintaining an “all teams” approach in the case of Nakayla Baskin, the 11 year old who vanished in the early morning hours of Sept. 25.

Police will be using all of the skills, resources and expertise at their disposal as well as acting on tips and other investigative avenues, said police spokesman Const. Chuck Benoit in a brief response for a request on an update on Friday. “There is nothing we can share at this time as far as leads. ”

Police have also confirmed that a photo distributed by the Missing Children Society of Canada is indeed Nakayla. Insp. Isobel Granger said Thursday that Ottawa police are “pulling out all the stops” to find the missing girl.

Police released their first bulletin asking for public assistance in locating the missing girl around 8 p.m. on Sept. 25. Nakayla had been reported missing from her home in the Carlington area by her family that morning.

In the first week after her disappearance, police received only two tips. On Oct. 1, police released video of Nakayla’s family pleading for her to come home. Police have also contacted forces across the country.

Nakayla was believed to be carrying a cellphone when she disappeared. Police have attempted to locate her using GPS, but were unable to do so because of the age of her phone.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ottawa police missing persons unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 2355 or 613-230-6211.

Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800222-8477.
