Pruneau still a maybe for Redblacks

- TIM BAINES

Will defensive back Antoine Pruneau play Saturday night?

It’s a question Ottawa Redblacks head coach Rick Campbell will likely get asked at practice each day this week.

The answer may not be clearcut until Thursday morning, a few hours before the Redblacks hop on a plane and leave for Edmonton.

Pruneau and offensive lineman Nolan MacMillan didn’t practise Tuesday. While Pruneau is still a maybe for Saturday’s game, it’s unlikely MacMillan will play. Both players were put on the six-game injured list a week ago.

“I’ll say 50-50 on Pruneau,” Campbell said. “He’s getting looked at again, he’s going to see a doctor and we’ll see where that is. I’m holding out hope because I know what his attitude is.

“I’m not as hopeful on Nolan. I don’t think we’ll see him this week. I’m not counting on him at all. We’re hoping he can recover. Hopefully that comes around, but it’s taking longer than we hoped.”

With Pruneau out, Anthony Cioffi shifted from SAM linebacker to safety with the starting unit for practice on Tuesday. Devin Butler was the starting SAM. Last week, Zed Brown took some starting reps at safety in practice before the team went with Jean-Philippe Bolduc in that position for Friday ’s game against Winnipeg.

“It’s the same deal as last week, where we have to figure out our ratio, whether it’s a Canadian or American spot,” Campbell said.
