Three weeks af­ter dev­as­tat­ing tor­na­does de­scended on Ot­tawa neigh­bour­hoods and cast much of the city into dark­ness, neigh­bours are ral­ly­ing to help neigh­bours whose need con­tin­ues.

A string of up­com­ing fundrais­ers range from drive-in bingo and a pair of coun­trystyle dances to a golf tour­na­ment and bar­be­cue.


Not one but two events have been or­ga­nized by the Carp Fair.

Bingo is at the Carp Fair­grounds Cen­tre Ring, 3790 Carp Rd., from 2 to 5 p.m. (Don’t miss the fa­mous Hunt­ley Burger). Ad­mis­sion is $10 for 12 games and a jack­pot.

The Tor­nado Re­lief Fundraiser Dance is in the Carp Fair­grounds Show­barn from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., fea­tur­ing mu­sic by dou­bleBack and D.W. James. $20.

Neigh­bours Help­ing Neigh­bours Fundrais­ing Coun­try Dance hosted by Val­ley Her­itage Ra­dio on the apt theme “neigh­bours help­ing neigh­bours, that’s the Val­ley way.” Doors open at 1 p.m. at the Kin­burn Com­mu­nity Cen­tre for the 2 to 6 p.m. event fea­tur­ing mu­sic by Neville Wells, Lau­ren Hall, Johnny Spinks, The Rogers Fam­ily, Ar­lene Quinn, Kyle Fel­haver, Jamie McMunn, Mike Cloutier, Andy T. Wil­liams, Pauline Brown and the Cana­dian Step­pers, a light lunch, door prizes and silent and live auc­tions. Ad­mis­sion is by do­na­tion.

Thurs­day, Oct. 18

Dun­robin Proud hosts an 11 a.m. golf tour­na­ment and “BBQ, bar and band” at 5:30 p.m. with the slo­gan “there’s no place like home.” All money raised by the events at Dun­robin’s Ea­gle Creek Golf Club will be dis­trib­uted by the Dun­robin Com­mu­nity As­so­ci­a­tion, to pro­vide sup­port as the com­mu­nity re­cov­ers.

The golf tour­na­ment is a shot­gun start, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and in­cludes a cart, lunch, on-course ac­tiv­i­ties and an après-golf re­cep­tion. Reg­is­tra­tion ($200) is through the Ea­gle Creek tour­na­ment sys­tem. The evening event fea­tures a live band, bar­be­cue and bar tent. Ad­mis­sion is $25.

A silent auc­tion runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and non­per­ish­able food do­na­tions be ac­cepted for the food bank.
