PLEASE DON’T EAT THE CEILING
Cottage made of chocolate part of sweet French getaway
Home sweet home, indeed. Artisan chocolatier Jean-Luc Decluzeau has joined forces with the travel website Booking.com to build a cottage that would make Willy Wonka weep with joy.
The cottage is located in a glass structure called the L’Orangerie Ephémère, found in the gardens of the ceramics museum Cité de la Céramique located on the outskirts of Paris, in Sèvres, France.
Up to four people can stay there for 50 euros (CDN$75), per night.
“I never thought I’d have the opportunity to build a life-size Chocolate Cottage for travellers to sleep in!” said Jean-Luc Decluzeau, according to Apartment Therapy.
“I’m excited to collaborate with Booking.com and to share my passion for chocolate. I hope guests will relish the chance to experience such a sweet and unique place to stay.”
The 18-square-metre structure is constructed with about 1.5 tons of chocolate; Decluzeau and his son spent a total of 600 hours building it.
In addition to making up the walls and roof, the sweet stuff was used to craft the fireplace, dresser, clock, cups, books and chandelier. Outside the cottage, there’s a white chocolate duck pond and flower bed crafted from chocolate. Just about the only things not comprising cocoa are the beds, floors and outdoor table.
As an added bonus, guests can participate in a workshop on making mini chocolate homes with Decluzeau himself.
Known for his intricate edible artwork and sculptures, Decluzeau is the author of the book Culte ou passion chocolat (Worship or Chocolate Passion).
I hope guests will relish the chance to experience such a sweet and unique place to stay.
