Winter or summer, Krumpers is the art and science of window blinds!

-

Locally manufactured blinds from Krumpers Solar Blinds are an innovative window treatment supporting more efficient heating and cooling, while allowing the window to do what it was intended — let in light and allow clear, unobstructed views. The smart two-sided design — one side for summer and one for winter — is only available in Krumpers Solar Blinds. Fitting any decor, easy to maintain and fully customized to fit most shapes, they are truly a solution for any window. Krumpers utilizes cuttingedge technology, thus allowing the end user an energy saving product that is also very elegant. Krumpers Solar Blinds are lab tested, customer endorsed and have been voted “Best Blinds” four years in a row.

The blinds, available as rollers, verticals or fixed panels, are designed with two distinct purposes and are twosided for optimal performance, explains owner Diana Livshits. “In the summer the blinds reflect the sun’s UV rays and heat back through the window, keeping indoor temperatures down. In the winter, owners simply flip the blinds, blocking out the UV rays and preventing heat from escaping the room as well as generating heat in direct light. Turning the blinds is a simple job that must be done for optimal efficiency. We provide clients with email reminders so they remember to do so.”

Livshits says the blinds will improve the performance of even the best window. “Even a good quality, triple-pane window with coatings might have an R-value (thermal resistance value) of R-7. Your walls, by code, must be at least R-29. Our product adds an additional R-value of approximately 10 so it brings the thermal strength of the window up much higher.”

The blinds retail for $38 per square foot — on par with any of the better quality shutters or window blinds — but they are an investment that will pay for themselves over time through the energy savings they create. Independent lab results show energy savings upwards of 40 per cent, with individual variables driving that number considerably higher.

“Designers love these blinds because they are what is called decor-neutral; they fit into any decor or colour scheme. They are like sunglasses for your windows; suitable anywhere.”

During a consultation, Livshits recommends thinking about the rooms in the home that are the biggest concern and start there. “You may not want to cover every window in your home, but if there is one room that is either too hot or too cold depending on the season, or one window you can’t look out because it needs to be covered in one or both seasons, that’s where we recommend you start.”
