Seniors are living longer and staying active and healthy well into their later years. Many seniors are finding that there are big benefits to moving into a senior living community. New senior residences like The Bradley, which opened last month at 130 Goulbourn Forced Road in Kanata, are more like cruise ships, with a wide variety of amenities, activities and perks.

Many seniors want to put off moving out of the family home until they are unable to live alone, yet so often new residents say they wish they had moved into a senior living community years earlier. Far from losing independence, many find that they actually gain more freedom to spend time on the activities they love, because all the cooking and cleaning chores are taken care of by a friendly staff.

The time they used to spend meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, washing up, vacuuming and doing laundry is now time they can spend playing cards with friends, going on nature hikes with the grandkids, learning to paint, writing a memoir or enjoying new friends and neighbours. Many also discover new passions.

The monthly rent at The Bradley includes a number of essential services, including three healthy chef-prepared meals per day, a snack bar, weekly housekeeping with linen service and even an in-house shuttle service so residents don’t have to drive or take public transit for outings and appointments. The managers live on site and are available to residents and their families 24/7. The Bradley boasts 40,000 sq. ft. of common area, including a private movie theatre, an activity and craft room, fitness centre, billiards and game room, largescreen TV lounge, library, chapel, salon and business centre.

Whether you’ve been in your home for two years or 65 years, the thought of downsizing can feel overwhelming and even scary. The Bradley has partnered with a team of real estate, home care and decluttering experts to help make the transition easier.

The Bradley is now open, and will have its official Grand Opening event on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information on The Bradley, please call 613-801-3804 or visit
