Winter or summer, Krumpers is the art and science of window blinds

-

Krumpers Solar Blinds are an innovative window treatment allowing for more efficient heating and cooling of a home while allowing windows to fulfil their purpose — to let in light and allow clear, unobstructed views. The locally manufactured blinds feature a smart twosided design that is unique to Krumpers — one side for summer and one for winter.

Able to fit any decor, easy to maintain and fully customized to fit most shapes, these blinds are truly a solution for any window. Krumpers utilizes cutting-edge technology, resulting in an elegant, energy-saving product. Krumpers Solar Blinds are lab tested, customer endorsed and have been voted HomeStars’ Best Blinds seven years in a row.

The blinds, available as rollers, verticals or fixed panels, are designed with two distinct purposes and are two-sided for optimal performance, explains Diana Livshits, owner of Krumpers Solar Blinds. “In summer, the blinds reflect the sun’s UV rays and heat back through the window, keeping indoor temperatures down. In winter, owners simply turn over the blinds, blocking out the UV rays and preventing heat from escaping the room as well as generating heat in direct light. Turning the blinds is easy to do, and we provide clients with email reminders when it’s time to do so.”

Livshits says the blinds will improve the performance of even the best window. “Even a good quality, triple-pane window with coatings might have an R-value (thermal resistance value) of R-7. House walls, by code, must be at least R-29. Our product adds an additional R-value of approximately 10, so it brings the thermal strength of the window up much higher.”

The blinds retail for $39 per square foot — on par with any of the better quality shutters or window blinds — but they are an investment that will pay for themselves over time through the savings they create. Independent lab results show energy savings upwards of 40 per cent, with individual variables driving that number considerably higher.

“Designers love these blinds because they are decor-neutral; they fit into any decor or colour scheme,” says Livshits. “They are like sunglasses for your windows and are suitable anywhere.”

Livshits recommends thinking about the rooms in your home that are the biggest concern and starting there. “You may not want to cover every window in your home, but if there is one room that is either too hot or too cold depending on the season, or one window you can’t look out because it needs to be covered in one or both seasons, that’s where we recommend you start.”
