Keep your hottest looks cool with a cosmetics refrigerator
Dairy products and meat need to go into the fridge as soon as we get back from the store, but what about cosmetics?
Scroll through Instagram and you’re bound to come across an influencer or two with a tiny icebox on their desk right next to their lipstick collection. It’s the cool new thing.
A number of skin-care products have ingredients that won’t necessarily go bad, but won’t be quite as good after some time has passed. Vitamin C, A and E can be found in products on any store shelf but could be sensitive to light and temperature changes.
“Keeping certain products in the fridge helps to keep them stable, increase efficacy, and helps with preservation so they stay efficacious longer, and of course the soothing anti-inflammatory benefits a cooling effect can provide,” skin-care specialist Joshua Ross told HuffPost.
Expensive items that aren’t used often are especially vulnerable and should be kept in the cold storage, according to Ross.
That doesn’t mean everything should be kept in the chill chamber. Facial oils should absolutely stay out of there since they work best at room temperature.
“When oils are exposed to cold they will solidify and thicken,” says Ross. That would make them nearly impossible to get out of the bottle or spread across your skin.
Instead, stick to keeping anything with antioxidants in the fridge, which includes face masks, eye creams, mists and medication creams. For good measure you can also keep fragrances and nail polish in there, too, just to be safe.
The coolers are smaller than the smallest mini-fridge and designed to sit on counter tops or desks. They usually range from $50-$100 depending on the size, number of shelves or whether they have a neat little window on the front.
If you aren’t into skin care, you still might be interested because the fridges can also perfectly fit a six-pack.
