Stars — they’re just like us!

Celebrities and their children finding ways to pass the time while isolating

- MARINA WANG

Like the rest of us, the rich and famous have found themselves cooped up at home in quarantine limbo. For celebrities who spend months away on tour or long hours toiling on film sets, being stuck at home is a rare opportunity to spend quality time with the kids. Whether they’re rocking the latest social media trends or keeping a rigorous home-schooling schedule, here’s how the stars are making the most out of their family time.

PLAY IN A COVER BAND

Actor Ethan Hawke and daughters Maya, Indiana, Clementine, and son Levon showed off an idyllic family get-together as the team cosied up on big comfy couch. The family played a rendition of the folksong To Live is to Fly which singer-actress Maya Hawke, 21, shared on her Instagram account. Maya begins with lead vocals accompanied by her brother and father on guitar and younger sisters singing.

It’s not the first time the family’s flaunted their musical talents. Maya released a handful of songs in 2019 and has an album due in June.

Ethan showed off his musical talent in the 2018 film Juliet, Naked.

START A DANCE TROUPE

For celebrities known for their moves, the talent apparently runs in the family. Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba and Ciara have all taken to TikTok dance routines featuring the whole family.

In one video, a pregnant Ciara and husband Russell Wilson break it down to Wiz Khalifa’s Something New.

The two kids, touting tiny bath robes, line up and boogie down. Lopez and partner Alex Rodriguez also did a dance to the same song featuring their four kids.

FAMILY SPA DAY

In addition to dancing, Alba and her daughters Honor Marie, 11, and Haven, 8, took some time to practice self care. Alba, 38, is no stranger to sharing adorable family activities on social media. In a recent Instagram post Alba poses with her two daughters in face masks. “#selfcare at home — I stay home for my 3 babies, hubby and all my family members — especially my grandparents,” reads the caption on her post.

HOME-SCHOOLING

Dancing and singing are all a great time, but singer Pink keeps her two children, Willow and Jameson, on a tight ship. “We’re sending our love from home,” she said in an Instagram video sitting next to daughter Willow. “I wanted to share something really cool a friend sent to me. It’s how to make a schedule for your family.”

Pink, 40, and her daughter created the daily schedule made from colourful construction paper that was posted on the wall. The family wakes before 9 a.m. to “go on our morning walk if we can, yoga if it’s raining,” followed by “academic time.”

The rest of the day also features creative time, as well as chore time and quiet time. Pink ended the video by thanking health-care workers. “This is a crazy time but we have each other so let’s figure out a way to talk to each other and connect.”
