Disgraced doctor’s licence revoked

Dr. Vincent Nadon lost his medical licence Wednesday for acts of voyeurism and sexual abuse that were described at a disciplinary hearing as the “most reprehensible conduct imaginable by a physician.”

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario discipline committee decided to revoke the Ottawa doctor’s licence and ordered him to pay $786,940 — more than $16,000 for each of his 49 victims to obtain counselling.

Nadon, 58, is serving an eightyear prison term for his crimes, which date to 1990. He pleaded guilty in December 2018 to sexual assault and voyeurism charges.

He’ll be eligible to apply for day parole in October.

College prosecutor Carolyn Silver said he preyed on 49 patients over 28 years, committing acts that called for mandatory revocation of his licence.

Nadon pleaded no contest to allegations of sexually abusing and voyeurism involving his patients.

“His conduct is shocking and a stain on the entire profession especially at this time when so many physicians are risking their health and safety to treat and care for patients under the most trying circumstances,” said Silver, alluding to the many doctors fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nadon “violated a sacred trust” by touching for sexual purposes and surreptitiously recording them, said Silver, who added he was guilty of the “most reprehensible conduct imaginable by a physician.”

The sexual misconduct admitted at his criminal proceedings included cupping a patient’s breasts and pinching a female patient’s nipples.

He also admitted making inappropriate sexual comments to a naked patient and requesting another to bend over and shake her breasts during an exam.

His “horrendous violations of his patients and the shame his conduct has brought on the profession by his depravity is even more profound,” Silver said.

In January 2018, a patient noticed a camera recording her and confronted Nadon, who initially lied, saying it wasn’t recording. When the lie was exposed, he said that the recording was meant for educational purposes, then deleted it.

The patient reported him to police and a flood of similar complaints followed.
