“The pandemic pulled me right out of retirement!” says Tonya Dickenson, marketing and strategic planner with Army of Masks. With 23 years working in pharmaceuticals, 10 of those in anti-infectives, Dickenson had been following the virus closely from the early stages. She spent her career working as a director of sales, marketing and marketing intelligence with Novartis and Abbott. So, in mid-March when a friend reached out to her for help to moderate a volunteer mask-making group, she knew she could fill the role, and the importance of it. Army of Masks is what they refer to as a onestop-shop website that has everything from how-to videos on how to wear a mask, how to make a mask, how to properly care for the mask as well as how to request a mask if you need one. To date, Army of Masks has created and distributed close to 43,000 masks in North America.
