The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) kicked off 2021 reinvigorated and hopeful under the leadership of Marc Bertrand, its promising new director of education.

Bertrand has over 20 years’ experience in the field of education. Over the past 12 years, he quickly climbed the ladder from teacher to vice-principal to principal to superintendent of education, and he is now taking on the challenges of serving as the CECCE’s director of education and secretary-treasurer.

SERVING STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES

Bertrand, a seasoned education professional who describes himself as “confident and excited” about his new mandate, is known and admired for his active engagement with students, their families and his staff.

“I’ll be counting on the support of the entire CECCE team as I strive to ensure ongoing access to top-quality education in French and to offer a unique and stimulating educational experience that ignites and fuels students’ desire to learn,” said Bertrand, himself the father of four CECCE students.

“Making sure students and staff feel good at school is important to me, so I will continue to prioritize their safety and well-being while fostering a caring environment and nurturing their sense of belonging and inclusion in harmony with the CECCE’s Catholic values,” he added.

TEACHING: A PASSIONATE FAMILY TRADITION

Bertrand’s passion for education is a family affair. His parents, sister and one of his brothers are all career educators. His father was a teacher and vice-principal, then a trustee and board chair. Fun fact: One of his brothers is actually the director of education for a francophone school board in the Toronto region!

In addition to his experience in education, Bertrand is well acquainted with the construction industry, which he got to know as a child alongside his father, who was also a real estate developer. That led to his service as superintendent of facilities, maintenance and education with the CECCE.

Bertrand is a passionate, engaged and humble education professional. The CECCE is riding high with 59 schools, its Virtual Learning Academy and close to 26,000 students, and Bertrand is committed to the ongoing pursuit of excellence.

Making sure students and staff feel good at school is important to me.
