These floor-cleaning products will help make the job easier

Spring cleaning seems to happen more often these days as we spend time at home

- KARL LOHNES

I appreciate the ritual of spring cleaning, but spending so much time at home these days has made it necessary to clean more often.

If you're like me, you've noticed that with increased use, the house is getting dirtier faster. Floors are used more than ever and for more than just walking on. My living room floors are used for stretching exercises, the den's broadloom is often covered in fabric samples and papers for design projects, and the kitchen is used all the time, so its floor requires extra attention.

If you can't wait until spring to start some deep cleaning, then you'll love the new products that are available to help.

I've looked around and found a few of the best floor-cleaning superheroes that will save you time and effort. Dust bunnies, beware!

AQUA ROBOTS

Now you can remove mopping the floors from your list of cleaning chores. The Braava jet m6 is a Wi-Fi-connected robot mop that cleans finished hard floors like hardwood, tile and stone with a jet spray and mopping pad. It learns the layout of your home by using an internal navigation system (called vSLAM) that enables it to clean and navigate the floors in neat, efficient rows. If it starts running low on battery power, it goes back to its docking station and charges itself, then picks up where it left off, ensuring the job gets done. Got a spill on the floor or need a quick cleanup? The m6 can target a specific area within the home by commands from your connected voice assistant; “Hey, Alexa, there's a juice spill in front of the fridge. Please clean it up.” Now, how easy was that?

A CLEAN EDGE

First on the agenda for cleaning any hard-surface flooring is to sweep up the dirt, then vacuum and wash. But when a broom is well designed, you can skip the backup vacuuming and go from sweeping to washing. Libman's Precision Angle Broom has bristle ends (they look like split ends) that collect tiny dirt particles (such as flour) with one sweep of the floor. The angle cut of the bristles make cleaning tight corners and under furniture a breeze. Bonus cleaning points: the handle is made of super sturdy metal that will last, and the broom's bristles are made of recycled plastic water bottles. There's even a clip-on dustpan included.

VERSATILE POWERS

Vacuuming can be a real chore: long electric cords to manipulate, finding the hand-held vacuum to clean the stair runners (where did I last leave that little devil?) and looking for the attachments to clean cobwebs off the ceiling means vacuuming is a multi-layered cleaning process that requires many parts. I have found the solution. Miele's Triflex HX1 Pro is unique to other stick vacuums as it offers a three-in-one design for flexibility when cleaning floors, furniture and hard to reach spots like ceilings. It's armed with Vortex technology (an airflow of more than 100 km/h), electric suction power controls and the bonus of an additional battery and charging station, so there is always an extra battery charged and waiting.
