Gearing up for the Colonel By Day long weekend? Here's what's open, what's closed and how to get around Aug. 2.

■ There will be no newspaper published on Monday and, therefore, no home delivery. The Citizen's offices will be closed.

■ Weekend lockstatio­n hours continue Monday at the Rideau Canal National Historic Site. And a visit is the perfect way to mark the legacy of Lt.-Col. John By, who led constructi­on of the more than 200-kilometre long connection between Lake Ontario and the Ottawa River.

RECREATION

■ City of Ottawa beaches, wading pools and splash pads will be open, weather permitting.

■ Some city-run indoor and outdoor pools will be open for public swimming, with modified schedules. Most registered programs are cancelled but some exceptions apply.

MUSEUMS, GALLERIES AND LIBRARIES

■ The City of Ottawa's Karsh-Masson Gallery, Barbara Ann Scott Gallery and the City Hall Art Gallery will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, but the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame and other city art centres, galleries, theatres and museums are closed.

■ The National Gallery of Canada is open with pre-purchased, timed-entry tickets required.

■ The Canadian Museum of Nature will be open, with advance tickets required.

■ The Canada Agricultur­e and Food Museum and Canada Aviation and Space Museum are open, with advance tickets required.

■ All Ottawa Public Library branches will be closed.

SHOPPING

■ Select Beer Store locations and most LCBO outlets will be open.

■ The Rideau Centre, Bayshore Shopping Centre, St. Laurent Shopping Centre, and Place d'Orléans will be among the malls open, as is Tanger Outlets.

PUBLIC TRANSIT

■ Buses will run on a Sunday schedule, with extra service on busy routes. Riders can use OC Transpo's travel planner to map their trip.

■ Extra service will be available on busy routes. Some trips on routes 61, 63 and 75 will be extended to Gatineau for the morning peak period and from Gatineau in the afternoon peak period. Routes 25, 39, 74, 75, and 85 will have extra trips in one or both peak periods compared to a typical Sunday, and Route 301 will run.

■ O-Train Line 1 will operate on a reduced weekday schedule, O-Train Line 2 bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule, and Para Transpo will operate a holiday service.

■ The OC Transpo customer service centre at the Rideau Centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 613-560-5000 to book an appointmen­t.

GARBAGE

There will be no curbside collection of green bins, recycling or garbage on Colonel By Day, with collection scheduled for Monday shifted to Tuesday. Collection will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week. Garbage at multi-residentia­l properties will be collected on the regularly scheduled day.

The Trail Waste Facility will be open on Colonel By Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PARKING

■ All overtime parking, signed or unsigned, won't be enforced on residentia­l streets, but other parking restrictio­ns are in effect.

OTHER CITY SERVICES

The 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters only. Call 3-1-1, 613-580-2400 or TTY: 613580-2401. The client service centres at city hall and Ben Franklin Place, and the Provincial Offences Court at 100 Constellat­ion Dr., are closed.

COVID-19

■ Visit the Ottawa Public Health COVID -19 vaccine page for vaccinatio­n booking informatio­n and to determine eligibilit­y.

■ Visit the OPH COVID-19 testing informatio­n page for hours of operation and to book appointmen­ts at assessment centres and care clinics in Ottawa.

The following sites will be open on Monday for testing:

■ COVID-19 CHEO assessment centre and Kids Come First Care Clinic and COVID-19 assessment centre for Adults, both at Brewer Park Arena, 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

■ COVID-19 drive-thru assessment centre on Coventry Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

North Grenville COVID-19 assessment centre in Kemptville from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
