98. The Expansion

Keep an eye on the marvellous Edgar, a tiny destination spot beloved by foodies on both sides of the river. Renowned for its flavoursome soups, sandwiches, and delicate pastries, chef-owner Marysol Foucault’s 13-seat eatery has been bulging at the seams since day one. The good news is that a summer renovation will expand it to 40 seats. The goal is for a mid-September opening of the divided space, which will feature fast lunches, pastries, and coffee on one side, with room on the other for diners who want a more elevated (and slower-paced) lunch and brunch. 60, rue Bégin, Gatineau.

99. The Cookbook

Culinary innovator Marc Lepine has authored a gorgeous coffee-table book. Renowned for his clever 12-course menus, the Atelier chef shot to national fame in 2012 when he won gold at the Canadian Culinary Championships, beating out top chefs from across the country for the crown. Since then, he has won it a second time and continues to wow with his pioneering techniques and picture-perfect dishes. Get your liquid nitrogen ready! Release date: September 25. $55.

100. The Christmas Dinner Demo

It happens every year: the commitments pile up, you scramble to keep up, and you fall back on cooking the exact same Christmas dinner you cooked last year. This is the year to clear the agenda for an afternoon and shake things up with a three-hour Christmas Dinner demo by the chefs at Le Cordon Bleu. Bonus: they’ll also be recommending perfect wine pairings for the exquisite apps, main, and dessert on the holiday menu. December 8. $170.

101. The Supper Club

Exposure Gallery, on the second floor of Thyme and Again, is set to become the location for a new supper club series that will give executive chef Tim Stock and his team the opportunity to flex their creative muscles. While still in the planning stages at press time, the idea is that each dinner will be a unique event that allows the chefs to play around with ideas, techniques, and the dining experience itself. For diners, that means a relaxed atmosphere, great food, and an evening bound to contain a few surprises. 1255 Wellington St. W.
